Development of my research question:

In the first class it was:

·         What is the impact of abusing staff in assisted living facilities in southern Alberta?

·         What is the Prevalence of staff abuse by residents in assisted living facilities?

Then:

·         What are the causes of occupational stress and burnout among health care workers in assisted living facilities in southern Alberta?

·         What is the impact of staff abuse in assisted living facilities in southern Alberta?

·         What is the Prevalence of staff abuse by residents in assisted living facilities in southern Alberta?

After discussion with Kyle and Tina, they advise me to change my question to:

·         What contributes to stress among healthcare aides working in assisted living facilities in Southern Alberta?

With my supervisor meeting we discuss too much about my question, then I came up with this questions:

·         What are the levels of stress among healthcare aides working in assisted living facilities in Lethbridge, Alberta?

·          What are the main stressors experienced by healthcare aides?

And now:

1.      What is the lived experience of unregulated health care workers working in assisted living facilities in Lethbridge, Alberta?

2.      How do unregulated health care workers experience work-related stress in assisted living facilities in Lethbridge, Alberta?

3.      What are the main stressors experienced by unregulated health care workers working in assisted living facilities in Lethbridge, Alberta?

4.      What factors contribute to work stress among unregulated health care workers working in assisted living facilities in Lethbridge, Alberta?

5.      What do unregulated health care workers do to cope with workplace stress?

6.      Who do these workers turn to for support?

7.      How does these stressors and the resulting stress impact the daily lives/work of workers (e.g. take time of work, short-term disability, treat co-workers differently, treat client’s differently)?

  1. Hi Mohammed,

I really like seeing the chronology of the development of your question. Are you planning on looking at all of the 7 questions you have listed now as sub-questions, or are you still working on paring it down?

  2. Hi Mohammed,
Thanks for inviting me to your blog! I really like the first question. I think that with asking the first question you will discover already a lot of the answers to your other questions (such as do they experience stress, this in turn will tell you how they experience stress and who they turn to if they experience stress) To me the other questions are sort of assumptions. What do you think? I think you are assuming that they experience stress. So you may want to find out first if they do experience workplace stress.

I hope those thoughts are helpful!
